Porches

A porch is the ideal way to reduce the loss of energy every time someone enters your home during the winter, providing almost an 'airlock'.

There are many other purposes a porch will be put to, possibly providing a partly protected area to overwinter some plants or a place for racks for outdoor footwear and coats.

Planning Permission?

Generally you will need permission if the porch has a ground area of more than three square metres or if the top will be more than three metres above ground level.

You also need permission if the porch is less than two metres away from the boundary of your home with the nearest highway or footpath.

There are some cases where previous development may affect the addition of a porch.
